The go-ahead has been given for 90 new homes at New Barn Lane, in North Bersted, after Arun District Council granted outline planning permission in January.
The New Barn Lane development is for a mixture of high-quality two, three and four bedroomed houses, some arranged as bungalows, to be set in formal and informal public spaces. The development will also provide generous parking within the site for individual house plots, on-street parking and another five additional spaces for existing New Barn Lane residents at the entrance to the site. The site will provide for 30% of the units as affordable to be delivered by local provider Southern Housing Group.
Landform is delighted by Arun council’s decision to approve the new homes. They will provide much-needed housing for the area, built to the highest standards. Local residents and the wider community have been worked with closely throughout the process and their concerns have been taken on board.
There were fears that more homes would put pressure on local drainage and flooding in the area. But Landform has assured the council that the new drainage system planned for the proposed site will actually help solve current problems by repairing some of the existing pipework.
To meet concerns about increased traffic, Landform has also designed the proposed access to the site wider than the local highway requirements to more easily take larger vehicles, such as dustbin lorries. Landform is also working with the West Sussex CC Highway footpath officer to improve the footpaths and cycleways across the local area and will be making a contribution of £50,000 to support this plan.
Landform is now talking to prospective buyers for the site. The 90 new homes will also help Arun District Council go some way towards meeting its ambition of building more than 750 homes per annum in accordance with the emerging Local Plan identified needs.
